In 1950 Ron graduated from Wayne Memorial High School and attended Wheaton College his freshman year of college. In 1952 he enlisted in the United States Army (Army Security Agency). He served for three years during the Korean Conflict and spent 18 months in Korea. Following his military career he rejoined the family business, Wayne Music and Camera Center in Wayne, Michigan and continued his education at Eastern Michigan University. He and the family conducted business for the next 22 years and in 1977 they liquidated the business.
Having enjoyed several ski trips to Colorado, Ron’s family moved to Boulder, Colorado in the fall of 1977. Because of his love for photography, Ron managed a church photo directory business in his early years in Boulder. Subsequent positions in sales followed and the last 12 years of full time employment was with Physiologics, a health care supplement company.
Ron had many interests including golfing, skiing, hiking, photography, reading and traveling. Above all, his family meant everything to him and he especially delighted in his grandchildren. He made special memories with them playing games, skiing, golfing and family gatherings.
He was a generous man and volunteered time at Grace Commons Church on the Coffee Crew for many years. In 2005 he took part in a two-week mission trip jointly sponsored by Habitat for Humanity and Grace Commons, building two homes in Durban, South Africa. Donning his retail hat, he volunteered at Boulder Community Health, primarily in the Gift Shop.
Ron was always an active church member. During his Michigan years he was a member of First Baptist Church, Wayne from early childhood. He sang in the choir from the time he was in high school, and was involved in many leadership positions in the church. He was a member of Bethany Baptist Church, Boulder, for about 14 years, sang in the choir and was a lay leader. He was a member of the Wayne, Michigan Rotary Club and the Boulder Rotary Club and he was a member of the American Legion Post 32 in Longmont. Ron has been a member of Grace Commons Church since 1991.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held at Grace Commons Church, 1820 15th Street, Boulder, Colorado at 2:00 p.m. Sunday, November 13, 2022
