Ronald Lawrence Sackett, June 15, 1930 - April 14, 2017 of 625 Augusta Drive, Louisville, Colorado, was born in San Jose, California the 10th child of 11 to Jesse and Ethel (Bussard) Sackett. His father was a farm laborer and his mother a part-time school teacher. His first jobs beginning at age 7, were with his brothers and sisters picking prunes and apricots. He graduated high school from Mountain View Academy in 1949. He served in the United States Army for 21 months as a medic during the Korean War and for 6 months on the front lines. He completed a degree in business administration from Pacific Union College in Angwin, California during which time he worked as a dishwasher and then as an orderly at Santa Clara County Hospital. He spent his second year of college at Madison College in Tennesee. He was married to Eunice Anne Hafner in 1954 and together they had four children, John, Walter, Ronda and Audrey. After graduating college his first jobs were as an accountant and then an insurance agent for two years for Allstate Insurance Company in Santa Cruz, California. He was then hired as the Administrator for Santa Cruz Community Hospital and for eight years grew in responsibility helping the hospital double in size from 50 to 100 beds. He was then recruited to be the CEO at The White Memorial Medical Center, a 370 bed teaching hospital in Los Angeles California. He completed his Masters Degree in Healthcare Administration at UCLA in 1969. Employment with a Seventh-day Adventist Heathcare organization brought numerous assignments to serve on Conference, Union and General Conference boards and committees. In 1974 he became CEO of Walla Walla General Hospital where he was instrumental in moving the hospital to a new location and in designing a new facility. In 1978 he accepted a position as president of Porter Memorial Hospital in Denver, Colorado and regional vice President for the Adventist Health System Rocky Mountain region. In 1989, he married Karen, mother to sons John and Jeff Spotts. Together they returned to California where Ron became president of San Antonio community hospital in Upland, California. Nine years later he served as president of Hinsdale hospital and Hinsdale health system in Hinsdale, Illinois. After retiring in 1998 they moved to Louisville Colorado. Ron served on multiple community boards and was elected to Louisville City Council Ward 3 and served from 2005 to 2013. Ron was a keen golfer and driving force behind the creation of the golf advisory board at Coal Creek golf course. His unwavering faith guided him throughout his life. Ron is preceded in death by his daughter who passed away in 1996 due to complications from Cystic Fibrosis. He is survived by his spouse Karen Sackett, his sons John and Walter, his daughter Ronda, step children John Spotts and Jeff & Dorey Spotts, grandchildren Allegra Sackett Nelson, Riki Unterseher, Randi Unterseher Hardesty, Greg Sackett, Jonathan Sackett, Jasper Anderson, Rena Sackett, Christopher Spotts, Austen Spotts, Landon Spotts, Riley Spotts and great-grandchild Milo Spotts. A graveside service will be held in Boulder, CO at the Green Mountain Cemetery Tuesday April 18 at 2pm. A Memorial Service will be held May 2017 at the Boulder SDA Church.
