Rosemary McKeon

December 17, 1928 — January 20, 2018

Rosemary Alexis McKeon led a remarkable life before departing this world on January 20, 2018. Loved by all who knew her, Rosemary never met a stranger, and found joy in the people and world around her.

Born on December 17, 1928 in Houston, Texas, Rosemary’s spirit of adventure and curiosity was apparent early as she explored the wild bayous near her childhood home. Raised in a long time Catholic family with roots going back to the Acadian French on her father’s side and to immigrant Irish grandfather and German grandmother on her mother’s side, Rosemary had a deep spiritual life, and tremendous faith and trust in the essential goodness of life.

She attended Catholic girl’s school, graduating from St. Agnes Academy as the first 12th grade class. She envisioned a life of travel and adventure, and found it with her husband, Charles, who she met at the Houston Catholic Rosarium, and married less than a year later in June, 1948, when she was just 19. Their marriage began a 64-year journey that took them away from Texas, to live in the Canal Zone, Germany, France and Spain and then through 11 of the American states. Rosemary was an intrepid traveler, packing up the family to adventure in new places and learning multiple languages to ensure she could meet new people and understand their culture.

Everywhere they lived, even as their family grew to six children - three boys and three girls, she and Charles dedicated time to their favorite hobby of home remodeling and fabulously landscaped gardens. Her children recall that the conclusion of those projects usually preceded a move in which their parents would start all over again!

Rosemary is survived by her six children, eleven grandchildren, three great-grand-children and her beloved sister Veronica and brother John. Her parents, Horace W. and Marguerite H. Hebert and her brother Bill and sister Primrose preceded her in death.

The funeral Mass was held on Wednesday, January 24, at St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church in Boulder, CO, celebrated by Father Shaun Galvin. The family offers its appreciation to The Academy Bella Vista Memory Care, where Rosemary spent her last 18 months; for their loving, respectful and compassionate care for her and for the family. They also give appreciation to Tru Care Hospice who ensured her comfort and peace in her final months.
