Valerie Buckendahl

June 2, 1935 — December 12, 2018

Valerie Jane (Kroh) Buckendahl, age 83, passed away unexpectedly on Wednesday, December 12th 2018, at the Foothills Boulder Community Hospital in Boulder, Colorado, after living a full life courageously battling several different health issues throughout her later years.
Born in Toledo, Ohio on June, 2nd, 1935, to Norman Kroh Sr. and Viola Cook, she lived several years in Freemont, Ohio along with her younger brother Norman Kroh, Jr.. She graduated from Ross High School in 1953. From there she moved to Boulder, Colorado to attend the University of Colorado graduating with a Bachelor of Science and later receiving her Masters in Education.
In 1954 she married Dale E. Buckendahl, to whom she was married 25 years. Together, they adopted three children, Shante (Pagel), Todd (Buckendahl) and Tina (Anders). They made their home in Boulder, CO. a place Valerie loved because of all the opportunities for hiking, backpacking, biking, walking, skiing (both down hill and cross country) and camping with her family.
Valerie worked in the field of Medical Technology at Longmont United Hospital and later enjoyed her second career with Boulder Valley School district as she taught English as a Second Language to her students from abroad.
She can be remembered for her love of jokes, laughter, her ready smile and her enjoyment of debating life’s issues. She loved flower gardening, once planting so many of her favorite tulips and daffodils that her garden was a blanket of spring color drawing many neighborhood cars to slow to a near halt just so they could admire the beauty of it all.
What gave Valerie her greatest times in life came during family gatherings especially during the holidays when she celebrated with her son Todd and daughter Shante and her five grandchildren, Candess (White), Cassia (Morrison), Jessica (Pagel), Garet and April (Anders), and her five Great grandchildren Boden, Cody, Kenna (White), Serenity and Ceili (Morrison) all who called her “G.G.”. From Thanksgiving through Jan. 6th (12th night) there was always a reason to celebrate. She never wanted the season to end!
One of Valerie’s fondest memories was attending her first High School Reunion in 2003 where she delighted in re-establishing her friendships.
She also loved her animals, especially her 4 cats and 2 dogs who were always playing and entertaining her and cuddling at her feet.
Valerie was proceeded in death by her daughter Tina Anders in June of 2008.
Valerie requested that no Memorial Service would be held, but rather her ashes be buried where trees and flowers flourish. This will be determined in the Spring of 2019 by her family with a small gathering of those closest to her invited to attend.

Donations may be made to Boulder Humane Society.
