Vincent L. Bates, age 80, of Boulder, CO, formerly of Chicago, IL, passed away on July 2, 2016. Dear son of the late Joseph and Bertha, nee Dixon, Bates. Beloved brother of the late Donald (Mary Alice) and the late Wayne (Carole) Bates. Loving uncle of David W. Bates and Jennifer Dorsey. Great uncle, cousin, and good friend of many.
Vince was raised in Chicago, which held a special place in his heart. Vince was Captain of the Swim Team and state champion when he attended Austin High School. His incredible butterfly breaststroke allowed him to win. Despite Chicago's painful winters, he enjoyed so much about the city, including deep dish pizza. He lived on the 16th floor just blocks from Lake Michigan and Wrigley Field. Vince worked as a technical planner for the First Chicago Bank (now Chase Bank) for many years before retiring in Boulder.
Vince's fascination with historical battles led to some favorite trips. He took a very moving tour of World War I battlefields and cemeteries in France last September to celebrate his 80th birthday. Antarctica was another favorite destination due to the incredible wilderness and bird life.
Vince especially appreciated his bridge buddies for the warm friendships and great games throughout the years.
