Waldo Mott Wedel of Boulder, Colorado, passed away on Wednesday, March 7th, 2018 at Boulder Community Health.
Waldo was born on July 1st, 1941, in Washington, D.C. to Waldo and Mildred Wedel. He completed his undergraduate study at the University of Missouri, Columbia, and graduated with a Masters Degree in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Illinois. He worked in research and development for Sun Microsystems in Broomfield, Colorado, before retiring in 2006.
He enjoyed hiking, taking photos and videos, and sharing his adventures with family in daily emails. Waldo (also known as Uncle Wally) found joy in interacting with his great-nieces and great-nephew, often teaching them about technology, science, and nature
He cared deeply about the environment and wildlife, and donated to the Archaeological Conservancy and other organizations. His love of the outdoors often led him to the Grand Canyon area. He was very much interested in history--evident in his personal research on Nicholas Roosevelt and his studies in paleontology
Waldo was happiest spending time at the family cabin in Allenspark, sitting on the porch watching wildlife.
He was preceded in death by his brother Frank Wedel in 2017, and is survived by his sister Linda, his nephew Jeff, and his two nieces April and Audrey.
A memorial service will be held in his honor on Saturday, March 10th, 2018 at 2:00 in the afternoon at Greenwood & Myers Mortuary at 2969 Baseline Rd., in Boulder, Colorado.
