William F. Bell, 86 of Boulder, passed away on Pearl Harbor Day, December 7th, 2012 after a brief illness. Bill was born on December 21, 1925 in Broomfield, CO. He was one of six children born to Newton J. Bell and Bessie Miller Bell. Bill was married to Jeanette Moore on December 16, 1949 at the First Methodist Church in Boulder. They met at Mrs. McKay's Skating Rink in North Boulder in l948. Bill passed away a few days before celebrating their 63rd wedding anniversary and his 87th birthday.
Bill was an active member of the Boulder Seventh-day Adventist Church for 73 years, joining the church at age 13. He attended school in Marshall, CO, through the 9th grade in a one room school-house. Bill then attended Boulder High School for his sophomore year before enlisting in the U.S. Navy. Since he was only 17, joining the Navy required his Dad's signature. Bill served as a Machinist's Mate Second Class on the USS Admiral W.S. Benson, and the USS President Monroe. He served in WWII in the Asiatic Pacific from April 1943 until he was Honorably Discharged in May of 1946.
Bill worked for the Boulder Fire Department from 1954 to 1961, and the City of Boulder Public Works Department from 1961 until retiring in April of 1992. He also was a fine stone mason, a construction worker, and a "jack of all trades". He and Jeanette were managers of the Lesser Apartments in Boulder for over 50 years.
Bill is survived by his loving wife Jeanette of 62 years, son Ken Bell, East Greenwich, RI, and two married grandchildren, Amy (Jason) Cerro of Westerly, RI, and Kenny (Meg) Bell of Warwick, RI. He was preceeded in death by his parents, his son Roger, and two brothers, Newton Bell and Jim Bell, and three sisters, Esther Benton, Dorothy Parker, and Mary Symanski. He is survived by several nieces.
Bill loved the outdoors. He and Jeanette hiked across the Grand Canyon, and climbed many mountains in their beloved Colorado. He also enjoyed camping, RV trips, and cruising around the world. His passion was sports. He loved the Broncos, and followed the Nuggets, Rockies, and the CU Buffs with great interest.
Bill also had a passion for helping others. He was a kind, gentle, humble, and loving man. He was a loving husband, father, and grandfather.
In lieu of flowers, friends are encouraged to make a donation to Hospice Care of Boulder and Broomfield Counties, 2594 Trailridge Dr. East, Lafayette, CO, 80026; or the Boulder Seventh-day Adventist Church, 345 Mapleton Ave., Boulder, Colorado 80304.
